Abstract
The issue of waste remains a crucial problem in Indonesia, directly impacting the environment, health, and quality of life of the community. Kayu Kebek Village in Pasuruan Regency is a clear example at the local level, where organic waste such as fruit and vegetables is dumped into rivers without any processing, causing pollution and environmental degradation. Low public awareness of waste sorting and management is a major challenge to sustainable development. Through community service activities in the form of Environmental Politics Practicum by students of Muhammadiyah University Malang, interventions based on the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach were carried out to encourage participatory, innovative, and sustainable waste management. This program has produced several innovations, including smoke-less burn barrels, Eco Enzymes from organic waste, aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, and briquettes from combustion residues. These activities are in line with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda and have been integrated into Indonesia's National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), particularly in the aspects of environmental management and strengthening the local economy. The success of the program is marked by multisectoral collaboration involving local governments, interfaith communities, and higher education institutions. In addition to strengthening community capacity in waste management, these activities also strengthen the identity of Kayu Kebek Village as a candidate for an environmentally based Tourism Village in 2026, as well as emphasizing the role of students as agents of change in the implementation of SDGs values at the grassroots level.
