Abstract

Social development in elementary school children is a crucial stage in character formation, as many social issues remain, such as emotional problems, violent behavior, bullying, and other social issues. Parents must be able to build good communication with their children. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence and extent of family communication patterns on the social awareness of fifth and sixth grade students at Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Elementary School.
The theory used in this study is Fitzpatrick's theory and Darmiatun's theory, the researcher uses a quantitative approach, this type of research is inferential, with the selection of respondents using purposive sampling techniques with a population of 94 students and a sample of 50 students, data collection using a questionnaire which is then analyzed using simple linear regression.
The results of this study obtained a value of -3.716 which shows that family communication patterns partially have a significant but negative effect on children's social awareness at Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Elementary School, where the higher the family communication pattern, the lower the children's social awareness at Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Elementary School, and vice versa, the lower the family communication pattern, the higher the children's social awareness at Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Elementary School. Based on the results of the determination coefficient, it is known that the influence of family communication patterns on children's social awareness is (0.223) 22.3% and 77.7% is influenced by other factors. This influence is classified as weak. It can be concluded that there is a significant but negative influence of family communication patterns on children's social awareness in Muhammadiyah 08 Dau Elementary School students.
