Abstract

Layer chicken manure has high nutrient and organic matter content and low moisture content, making it ideal for processing into organic compost. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of adding organic waste on the potassium (K) content and C/N ratio of layer chicken manure compost. The research material was layer chicken manure from open house coops that had been accumulated for one month. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments were P0 = 100% laying hen manure, P1 = 50% laying hen manure + 50% coffee husk waste, P2 = 50% laying hen manure + 50% banana peel waste, and P3 = laying hen manure + 50% rice husk ash waste. The tools used were rotating drums as composting containers, shovels for mixing materials, used burlap or plastic bags for storing samples, digital scales for weighing materials, compost thermometers for monitoring compost temperature, a digital pH meter to measure the acidity level of the compost, glass beakers for collecting and mixing liquid samples, and rubber gloves to maintain hygiene. The results of the study show that the addition of organic waste has a very significant effect on the K content and C/N ratio of compost. The highest K content was found in P1, which was combined with 50% coffee husks, at 0.91%, and the lowest C/N ratio was 18.6 in P2, which was combined with banana peels. The conclusion is that mixing laying hen manure improves the quality of the fertilizer produced. The fertilizer produced has a potassium content and C/N ratio that complies with the requirements of RSNI3 7763:2024. The combination of laying hen manure with various organic materials significantly increases K and lowers the C/N ratio.
