Abstract
Background: family support is the most important factor in post-ischemic stroke patients' dietary compliance to prevent recurrence because it can serve as a benchmark for the success of the intervention. The higher the good family support, the higher the quality of life of patients with post-ischemic stroke. Maximum family support will provide physical and psychological comfort for post-ischemic stroke patients, ensuring adherence to the ongoing diet therapy required.
Objective: to determine the role of the family in dietary compliance in post-ischemic stroke patients in an effort to prevent recurrence.
Research method: the research method used by researchers is a qualitative method with case studies on 3 subjects, namely Mrs. H (P1), Mr. F (P2) and Ms. I (P3). This research was validated by source triangulation, namely semi-structured interviews directly face-to-face. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation.
Result: analysis of data obtained by researchers from interviews and has been validated by the participants formulated 3 themes, namely: 1) The role of the family as a motivator, 2) The role of the family as an educator, 3) The role of the family as a facilitator.
Conclusion: A person suffering from a chronic illness like Mrs. J's, post-ischemic stroke, needs the role of family as a motivator, educator, and facilitator, as well as support and attention from the family to fulfill daily self-care needs. A positive family role can improve the patient's quality of life and self-confidence, thus motivating them to recover. With a maximal family role, a person will be cared for, cared for, and loved.
