Abstract
Ananda Wahyu Kan Naafi’u. NIM. 202110040311173. Audience Opinions on the Mini Series “Sinyal di Atas Gunung” by Segitiga Film (Reception Analysis of Active Members of the Nature Lover Student Division, University of Muhammadiyah Malang). Edition 2025. Undergraduate Thesis.
Mini series have now become a popular medium capable of influencing audience opinions through stories closely related to their daily lives. One example is Sinyal di Atas Gunung by Segitiga Film, which generated diverse perspectives, particularly regarding the prohibition of the hiking hobby depicted within the narrative. This study aims to explore how the audience interprets that message.
Using Stuart Hall’s reception theory with its three decoding positions dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional this research employs a qualitative method with descriptive and ethnographic approaches. Informants were selected from active members of UKM DIMPA UMM through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings reveal that audience opinions are divided according to Stuart Hall’s reception positions. Some agreed with the portrayal of hiking (dominant-hegemonic), others accepted it with personal adjustments (negotiated), while another group rejected the message (oppositional). These differences were influenced by individual backgrounds, hiking experiences, and personal values. This study emphasizes that audiences are not passive, but rather active in constructing meaning based on their socio-cultural contexts.
