Abstract

Biodiversity is the main foundation in maintaining the stability of forest ecosystems, especially in areas that have protection functions such as Kondang Merak Beach Protected Forest in Malang. This study aims to analyze the Importance Value Index (INP), vegetation composition and structure, and social- ecological aspects of the area. The methods used include vegetation analysis with measurements of the Important Value Index (INP), Diversity Index (H'), Richness Index (DMg), and Evenness Index (E). Results showed that Arenga obtusifolia M. species had the highest INP of 26.979% in the coastal forest, while Ficus retusa dominated the lowland forest with the highest INP of 36.73 and an average of 36.726%. The peacock kondang protected forest area shows a Diversity Index value of H' in the coastal forest of 3.48, and in the lowland forest of 3.69 which is high. The Species Richness Index (DMg) in coastal forests averaged 9.31 and the average Dmg value in lowland forests amounted to 8.22 so that it was included in the criteria for richness with high species. The Equality Index (E) value of more than 0.6 is shown in the coastal forest area with an average value of 0.904 and the lowland forest area with an average value of 0.922 so that it is included in the criteria for high equality, but the diversity of lower plants is classified as moderate due to the limitation of light by dense canopy. This research emphasizes the importance of sustainable forest management and community involvement in preserving the biodiversity of coastal areas.
