Abstract
Drug abuse remains a complex and persistent social problem, particularly among youth. This study addresses the growing prevalence of narcotics abuse, which poses significant threats to individual health, social stability, and legal enforcement. The main research problem centers on identifying the underlying criminological factors that drive individuals to engage in narcotics abuse. this research applies a socio-legal (juridical-sociological) approach, combining field interviews and literature studies to understand real-life social phenomena. The data analysis utilizes a qualitative descriptive method to interpret observations and testimonies from informants with direct experience in narcotics use. The findings highlight multiple interrelated factors—including individual (mental health, stress-coping skills), social (peer pressure, family dynamics), economic (poverty, lack of access to resources), and environmental (drug availability, cultural acceptance). These are analyzed through five key criminological theories: Differential Association, Anomie, Subculture, Labelling, and Control Theory, offering a systematic perspective on the roots of deviant behavior. The study concludes that narcotics abuse is not merely a personal failing, but asocial phenomenon shaped by structural inequality and environmental influences. Consequently, comprehensive and empathetic interventions are necessary. Recommendations include strengthening family involvement and school-based preventive education, enhancing legal literacy using psychological and sociological approaches, and reforming public policy to prioritize rehabilitation and community-driven support systems.
