Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of multiliteracy in English language teaching at SMAN 1 Gondanglegi. In an increasingly digital and multimodal era, the multiliteracy approach is essential in equipping students with the ability to communicate through various forms of media, including text, visuals, audio, and digital platforms.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with the English teacher.
The findings reveal that the teacher implemented multiliteracy through three main strategies: the use of various media, digital storytelling, and a combination of traditional and modern assessments.
The integration of visual and digital media significantly enhanced student engagement and comprehension. Digital storytelling enabled students to creatively express their ideas and understanding. The diverse assessment strategies provided a comprehensive overview of students’ abilities, not only in linguistic aspects but also in real-world communication contexts.
These findings indicate that the implementation of multiliteracy at SMAN 1 Gondanglegi is dynamic and effectively supports the development of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
