Abstract

The phenomenon of conflict between martial arts schools in Indonesia often escalates into violent acts, including group assaults that result in fatalities. These incidents not only reflect underlying social issues but also become a significant concern in criminological studies. This research aims to identify and analyze both internal and external factors that drive perpetrators to engage in inter-school assaults leading to death. The research questions focus on the internal motivations and external influences behind such violent behavior. The study employs a juridical-criminological approach, using literature review as the foundation for analysis, including sources on martial arts-related violence and criminological theories. The findings indicate that internal factors include excessive fanaticism, indoctrination, uncontrolled emotions, and personal revenge. External factors comprise peer influence, environmental conditions, and provocation stemming from negative societal labeling of certain groups. Through the application of differential association theory, anomie strain theory, subcultural theory, and labeling theory, this study concludes that such criminal acts are the result of social learning processes, structural pressures, and the construction of deviant group identities. Therefore, group assaults between martial arts schools are a form of social deviance influenced by a combination of personal and environmental factors.
