Abstract
Mental toughness is an essential ability for athletes to withstand pressure and challenges during competitions. One contributing factor to the development of mental toughness is social support. This study aimed to examine the influence of social support on mental toughness among futsal athletes in Malang City. The research employed a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 315 futsal athletes selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used were the social support scale and the mental toughness scale. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The assumption tests showed that the data were normally distributed and the relationship between variables was linear.
The regression analysis revealed a positive and significant influence of social support on mental toughness, with a coefficient value of β = 0.505, a significance level of p < 0.001, and a contribution of R² = 0.255. This means that the higher the social support received by athletes, the higher their level of mental toughness. These findings highlight the importance of support from family, coaches, and peers in strengthening athletes’ psychological resilience. The implication of this study suggests the need for training programs that incorporate psychosocial aspects to support athletes’ performance and mental readiness more effectively.
