Abstract

Rozin Afi Abqori, 2025, 201810010311014, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Department of Social Welfare.“The Social Welfare of the Sambikerep Village Community After the Relocation Due to the Construction of the Semantok Dam (A Study in Sambikerep Village, Rejoso District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java)”. Supervisor I: Prof. Dr. Oman Sukmana, M.Si. Supervisor II: Zaenal Abidin, S.Sos., M.Si.

The construction of the Semantok Dam in Nganjuk Regency had a direct impact on the residents of Sambikerep Village, requiring them to relocate from their homes and primary sources of livelihood. This study aims to describe the living conditions of the community after the relocation and to analyze the efforts made to meet their daily needs and achieve social welfare. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, using data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that the relocation has brought significant changes in economic, social, and environmental aspects. Economically, the community lost access to agricultural land, which had long served as their main source of income. Consequently, many residents shifted to informal sectors such as small-scale trading, daily labor, or home-based businesses. Socially, the relocation disrupted social ties among residents due to the dispersion of new settlements. However, some forms of solidarity, such as mutual cooperation and religious activities, continue to be preserved. Environmentally, the new settlement provides improved basic infrastructure compared to the previous location, but the lack of public facilities such as green space, schools, and access to public services remains a challenge. Despite facing complex challenges, the community has shown various adaptive strategies to sustain their livelihoods. These efforts include using compensation funds to start businesses, rebuilding social relationships in the new environment, and strengthening local values as a foundation of community solidarity. Overall, this dynamic reflects the collective struggle of the Sambikerep community to build a decent life after relocation, as part of their journey toward achieving independent social welfare.
