Abstract

This study explored the use of Quizizz as a gamified teaching tool for grammar instruction in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting. Conducted at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Malang, the research employed a quantitative, one group quasi-experimental design using pre-test and post-test. The participants, seventh-grade students, 24 students of 7B, engaged in seven grammar-focused sessions delivered through the Quizizz platform.
The results showed a clear improvement in students' grammar performance. Average scores rose from 73.78 in the pre-test to 87.80 in the post-test, with an N-gain of 52.20%, suggesting a moderate level of learning effectiveness. A paired samples t-test confirmed this improvement was statistically significant (p < 0.001). In addition, student feedback collected through questionnaires revealed strong enthusiasm for Quizizz, with most students reporting higher motivation, better engagement, and improved understanding during the lessons.
In summary, using Quizizz to gamify grammar instruction proved effective in boosting both learning outcomes and student involvement. These findings support the adoption of digital gamified platforms as a valuable complement to traditional EFL grammar teaching, promoting both academic and emotional engagement.
