Abstract
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT is increasingly widespread in higher education, especially in students’ academic activities. However, it remains unclear whether the use of ChatGPT is associated with students' problem-solving abilities. This study aims to examine the relationship between the use of ChatGPT and problem-solving skills. A quantitative approach with a correlational survey design was used. The participants were 299 university students who had used ChatGPT in their academic activities over the past semester. The instruments used were the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) scale and the Problem Solving Inventory (PSI). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation through SPSS. The results showed no significant relationship between ChatGPT use and students’ problem-solving abilities. These findings suggest that the presence of AI technology does not necessarily enhance students’ thinking skills. Therefore, more structured and reflective strategies in using AI are needed so that tools like ChatGPT can contribute effectively to learning processes and cognitive skill development.
