Abstract
Problematic Internet Use (PIU), such as social media addiction or liking online interaction over offline is considered to be one of the important factors in every phase of development that can harm individuals, namely the way individuals use the internet excessively. This study aims to analyze the Picture of Problematic Internet Use in Indonesia from social and economic factors, namely from gender, age level, education level and type of occupation. This study is a descriptive quantitative study on the developmental phase of late adolescence and early adulthood totaling 304 people in Indonesia using accidental sampling techniques. The scale used is the Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS-2). The analysis was carried out using a descriptive statistical analysis test with the help of Microsoft Excel office 16, and This study found that the majority of respondents aged 18–40 fall into the moderate category across all dimensions of Problematic Internet Use (PIU), including preference for online interaction, mood regulation, cognitive preoccupation, compulsive use, and negative outcomes. These findings indicate that internet use, particularly social media, has become a significant part of daily life with a fairly high intensity, though not yet at an extreme level.
