Abstract

Final-year students often face high academic pressure, particularly when completing their final projects. In these situations, social comparisons often arise, especially when students compare their progress or achievements with their peers in a competitive environment influenced by social media. Although social comparison is common, research linking it to academic resilience remains limited, particularly among students in their final year. This study aims to investigate the influence of social comparison on academic resilience among senior-year students. The approach used was a quantitative correlational design. The subjects were 286 final-year students who actively used social media as a source of social interaction. The sampling techniques used was accidental sampling. The instruments used were the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) to measure social comparison and The Academic Resilience Scale (ARS) to measure academic resilience. The analysis technique used was simple linear regression. The results showed that social comparison significantly influenced academic resilience (β = 0.282, p < 0.001) with an R² value of 0.08. The study indicated that the higher the level of social comparison, the higher the academic resilience possessed by final-year students.
