PENGARUH PERBANDINGAN SOSIAL TERHADAP KECEMASAN KARIR PADA MAHASISWA PTN DAN PTS DI KOTA MALANG

This study aims to examine the influence of social comparison on career anxiety among students from public (PTN) and private (PTS) universities in Malang City. The increasing prevalence of career anxiety among university students has become a significant issue, particularly during the transition to the workforce. Social comparison is considered one of the external factors contributing to heightened anxiety levels. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach involving 200 students from various PTN and PTS institutions in Malang, selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used were the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM) to assess social comparison and the Career Anxiety Scale to measure career anxiety. Regression analysis revealed a significant and positive effect of social comparison on career anxiety (p < 0.001), with a contribution of 12.9%. However, most students showed low levels of social comparison while still experiencing high levels of career anxiety, indicating the influence of other contributing factors. Furthermore, no significant differences were found between PTN and PTS students in terms of social comparison and career anxiety.
