Abstract
The advancement of technology and globalization has made it easier for foreign cultures to enter Indonesia, including the Korean Wave, which has an influence on how individuals perceive body image. K-pop, as a part of the Korean Wave, not only offers entertainment but also promotes certain beauty standards through idol visuals. Intense exposure to K-pop entertainment can trigger celebrity worship towards the idols, which potentially affects an individual’s body image. This study aims to examine the influence of celebrity worship on body image among female K-pop fans in early adulthood. The sampling technique used in this study was convenience sampling, with a total of 389 female participants. The instruments used in this study were the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) and The Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBSRQ-AS). The result of multiple linear regression analysis, collectively, celebrity worship had a positive and significant effect on body image (R² = 0.058, p < 0.05). However, when examined individually, none of the celebrity worship dimensions demonstrated a statistically significant effect on body image.
