Abstract

Medical emergency or prehospital care is a crucial component of the healthcare system, aimed at providing rapid and accurate treatment for acute and critical conditions outside of hospital facilities. In Indonesia, this service is implemented through the Integrated Emergency Management System (SPGDT) 119, operated by the Public Safety Center (PSC). The success of this service heavily depends on the safety attitudes of the personnel, referring to the behaviors and attitudes that support workplace safety and minimize medical errors. However, previous studies have indicated that the safety attitudes of medical personnel in Indonesia remain at a low to moderate level, mainly due to poor coordination, limited training, and an underdeveloped safety culture. This study aims to describe the safety attitudes of PSC 119 Malang personnel in handling medical emergencies in the prehospital setting. The research employed a non-experimental design with a cross-sectional approach, involving all PSC 119 personnel in Batu, Malang City, and Malang Regency, with a total of 84 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using the Indonesian version of the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire – Ambulatory (SAQ-A) and analyzed descriptively. The results show that, in general, the safety attitudes of the personnel are categorized as fairly good, particularly in aspects such as safety climate, safety climate, and job satisfaction. However, aspects such as perception of management, working conditions, and stress recognition still require attention. Therefore, continuous training, improved team coordination, and strengthening of safety culture are necessary to support optimal and sustainable prehospital service quality.
