Abstract
Abstract
Eye-hand coordination is a crucial skill supporting fine motor activities in children with special needs. Brain Gym exercises are designed to enhance motor and cognitive functions through neuromuscular and sensorimotor stimulation. This study aims to analyze the effect of Brain Gym movements such as hooks up, cross crawl, balance pose, and the owl on improving eye-hand coordination in children with special needs from kinesiology and biomechanical perspectives. The research employed an experimental design involving children aged 6-12 years with special needs who underwent Brain Gym exercises for 8 weeks. Eye-hand coordination was measured using the Purdue Pegboard Test covering dominant hand, non-dominant hand, both hands, and assembly tasks. The findings revealed significant improvements in Purdue Pegboard scores across all tested domains after the Brain Gym intervention (p < 0.05). Neurophysiologically, the exercises were found to stimulate inter-hemispheric connectivity and enhance sensorimotor integration supporting fine motor abilities.Brain Gym is effective in enhancing eye-hand coordination in children with special needs. It is recommended to integrate these exercises into motor therapy and educational programs for children with special needs.
