Abstract

Employee job satisfaction is a crucial factor in ensuring the success of construction projects; however, field observations indicate that dissatisfaction still occurs despite the provision of adequate work facilities. This study aims to examine the influence of physical and non-physical work environments on employee job satisfaction in the construction project
of the Ministry Coordinator 4 office complex at the new capital city (IKN). A total of 60
employees participated, selected through convenience sampling. The research instruments
consisted of three measurement scales: the physical work environment scale based on
Christiyanto (2020), the non-physical work environment scale based on Siagian (2014), and
the Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ) developed by Cellucci & DeVries (1978). The
results showed that jointly, the physical and non-physical work environments significantly
affected job satisfaction (p < 0.05). However, individually, neither variable showed a
statistically significant effect, although the non-physical environment contributed more
(11.3%) than the physical environment (7.4%). These findings emphasize the importance of
social relationships, teamwork, and supervisory support as dominant factors in shaping job
satisfaction. It is recommended that companies maintain a balanced focus on both physical
and psychosocial aspects to create a productive and healthy work environment.
