Abstract

The popularity of K-Pop, especially the group NCT, has created a very active fan community in Indonesia. The phenomenon of celebrity worship among NCT fans raises questions about the influence on psychological well-being, especially in early adulthood who are facing various developmental challenges. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of celebrity worship on the psychological well-being of NCT fans in early adulthood. This study used a quantitative approach with convenience sampling technique. Data was collected from 298 respondents using the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) instrument by Maltby and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression test. The results showed that there was no significant effect of celebrity worship on the psychological well-being of NCT fans in early adulthood with a p value = 0.378 (p =>0.05) and R Square = 0.003. The level of celebrity worship does not differentiate the psychological well-being of fans, whether highly involved or not. This finding confirms that celebrity worship is not the main factor that distinguishes psychological well-being in NCT fans. This study recommends that future studies explore other factors that are more instrumental in shaping psychological well-being in the fan community, so as to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological well-being of NCT fans.
