Abstract
Badminton is a sport that requires good hand grip strength, while data shows that there are quite a number of injuries occurring in the wrists of badminton players (around 19–32% in the upper extremities, including the wrists). This study aims to determine the relationship between grip strength and the risk of wrist injuries in badminton. This is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at the Multipurpose Building in Dadaprejo Village, Junrejo District, Batu City. The sample size consisted of 30 badminton players who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The participants were young adult badminton players aged 18–24 years. The research instruments included a Camry dynamometer and the Patient Rating Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) questionnaire. Data analysis used the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Mann-Whitney comparison test. The results of the normality test for grip strength data in both groups (those who had experienced injuries and those who had not) were not normally distributed, as the p-value was <0.05. The results of the Mann-Whitney U test showed a p-value of 0.826 > 0.05. This indicates that there was no significant difference in grip strength between badminton players with a history of injury and those without a history of injury.
