Abstract
In navigating campus life, first-year university students face various challenges and adjustments that can influence their outlook on the future. Therefore, it is important for them to develop an optimistic attitude, which is strongly supported by resilience—the ability to recover from difficulties and adversity. This study aims to examine the influence of resilience on optimism among first-year students. A correlational quantitative approach was employed, using simple linear regression analysis. The sample consisted of 350 second-semester students from various public and private universities, selected using incidental sampling techniques. Data were collected using a resilience scale and the LOT-R optimism scale. The results showed a positive and significant influence of resilience on optimism (R = 0.351; R² = 0.123; p < 0.001), indicating that resilience contributes 12.3% to the increase in student optimism. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening resilience in students as an effort to foster optimism in facing academic challenges during the early stages of university life.
