Abstract

Background: The issue of disaster preparedness among nursing students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is an urgent issue given the high risk of disasters in Indonesia, which is known as one of the countries with the highest level of disaster vulnerability in the world. It is important to identify factors that influence such preparedness and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of training programmes as well as disaster education at UMM.
Objective: This study aims to determine knowledge about disaster preparedness among nursing students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
Methods: This research uses descriptive-analytic. Sample in this study amounted to 80 students. The observed variables were knowledge about disaster preparedness. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics
Results: The results in this study were the highest as many as 55% of respondents had ‘Sufficient’ knowledge about disaster preparedness, then as many as 25% of respondents had “Less” knowledge about disaster preparedness, then as many as 20% of respondents had ‘Good’ knowledge about disaster preparedness.
Conclusion: The results of this study describe student knowledge showing the average valueof student knowledge of 55% or more than half haveknowledge of disaster preparedness in UMM nursing students in the‘sufficient’ category.
Suggestion: Nurses as educators in preventive efforts can provide healtheducation to adolescents to increase knowledge about disasterpreparedness.
