Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of Turkey's involvement in the Syrian conflict on regional stability in the Middle East in the period 2016-2020. Turkey's involvement, marked by military operations in northern Syria and policies towards the Kurdish group and Syrian refugees, has triggered significant changes in the political, security, and humanitarian dynamics in the region. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to identify the motives for Turkey's intervention, such as efforts to counter threats from the YPG group which is considered affiliated with Kurdish separatists in Turkey, as well as handling the flow of refugees reaching millions of people. The results of the study show that Turkey's military intervention exacerbates tensions with regional and global actors, increases the risk of cross-border conflict, and creates new instability in the region, including the potential for escalation between Turkey and the United States regarding support for the Kurdish group. In addition, Turkey's policy towards refugees and changes in its political stance have also influenced bilateral and multilateral relations in the Middle East, as well as adding to the complexity of security and humanitarian challenges in the region.
