Abstract

Workplace safety is an important aspect in high-risk industries, such as harvesting work in oil palm plantations. The high rate of workplace accidents is often caused by low risk awareness and unsafe behavior among employees, such as not using personal protective equipment (PPE). This study aims to investigate the influence of risk awareness on safe behavior among employees in the harvesting department of an oil palm plantation company. The study employs a quantitative approach using regression analysis to determine the magnitude of the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression through SPSS software version 25. The respondents in this study were 268 employees in the harvesting department, selected using proportional random sampling. The measurement tools used in this study were the risk perception scale developed by Ferrer and Klein, and the safe behavior scale developed by Neal and Griffin. The results of the study showed a highly significant influence between risk perception and safety behavior, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.059 indicates that risk perception contributes 5.9% to safety behavior, while the rest is influenced by other factors.
