Abstract

This study aims to assess the readiness of Tapak Village, Magetan Regency, in developing the tourism potential of Sumber Nganten as part of a sustainable village tourism development strategy. The research is based on the abundant natural and cultural resources in Tapak Village, which have not yet been strategically integrated into the village’s planning documents. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation.
The findings indicate that natural tourist attractions such as Sumber Nganten, a natural stream, and scenic views of Mount Lawu possess strong appeal for development as a tourism destination. Furthermore, the local community's social life, which remains rich in mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and cultural traditions, supports the potential for community-based tourism development.
However, village tourism development faces challenges, including the absence of tourism in village planning documents, limited supporting infrastructure, and the suboptimal role of local institutions. This study recommends the need for strategic planning, strengthened community participation, and institutional support to ensure Tapak Village is prepared to become a competitive and sustainable tourism village based on local potential.
