RASIONALITAS PETANI PEMILIK LAHAN DALAM MEMPERTAHANKAN HIDUP SUBSISTEN (Studi Deskriptif di Dusun Punjul Desa Wonokerto Kabupaten Probolinggo)

The purpose of the research entitled “Rationality of Landowner Farmers in Maintaining Subsistence Life (A Descriptive Study in Punjul Hamlet, Wonokerto Village, Probolinggo Regency)” is to find out how the rationality of landowner farmers in Punjul Hamlet is formed in their subsistence life. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive research, the research location in Punjul Hamlet, Sukapura District, Proboinggo Regency. Determination of research subjects using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques use primary data: through observation, interviews, and documentation, while secondary data: through books, journals, and previous research, which have similar references. Data validity uses source triangulation which tests the credibility of the data by checking the data that has been obtained through several sources. The theoretical analysis uses Samuel L. Popkin's farmer rationality. The results of this study indicate that there are several strategies used by landowning farmers in maintaining their subsistence life such as the act of renting agricultural land, the act of maintaining crops, the act of using an intercropping system, the act of joining a farmer group, the act of using diesel engines to draw water during the dry season, and relating to farm laborers as patrons-clients. Attempts by landowning farmers to expand by connecting directly to the market were made by farmer groups, but these efforts were disallowed by the village head and prohibited farmers from selling their produce directly to the market but instead continued to sell their produce to middlemen in the village.
