Abstract
Many police agencies at various levels conduct press releases to uncover crimes. One such institution is the Batu Police. However, this practice carries legal implications for perpetrators. Therefore, researchers address a frequently occurring issue in press releases, namely the violation of the presumption of innocence. The importance of this research is to determine the influence and impact of the implementation of the presumption of innocence on press releases conducted by the police, especially at the Batu Police. This research method uses sociological juridical methods. The location is at the Batu Police Resort. Data sources were obtained from the Head of the Public Relations Section, Criminal Investigation Investigators of the General Crimes Unit, and Mass Media Journalists. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the presumption of innocence at the Batu Police Resort focuses on protecting the suspect's identity. However, a lack of detail was found in the SOP for its implementation. The implementation of the presumption of innocence in press releases has an impact on the police, suspects, journalists, and the surrounding community. From these press releases, the public has a tendency to judge the suspect as guilty before a court decision. It is hoped that the Indonesian National Police can create regulations regarding press releases as guidelines for implementing press release activities at the Police Resort and Regional Police throughout Indonesia.
