Abstract

Orchid plants require maintained humidity to support optimal growth, but manual watering methods are often inefficient. This study aims to design and build an Internet of Things (IoT)-based automatic watering monitoring and control system using an ESP32 microcontroller, soil moisture sensor, water float, and integration of a web platform and Telegram bot. This system implements Rule-Based logic that automatically activates the pump when soil moisture is below 40% and turns it off when it reaches 70%. Humidity data and watering activity are sent to the server and displayed in real-time via a web dashboard, and sent as notifications to Telegram. The test results show that the system successfully runs automatic watering adaptively, with watering durations varying between 12 and 168 seconds and water discharge between 0.34 and 4.78 liters. The system is also able to provide notifications with a 100% success rate and low discharge measurement error (0.03%–2.43%). Thus, this system is proven to increase efficiency in orchid plant care and provide ease of remote monitoring and control.
