Abstract

This study discusses the Arabic dubbing process of the animated film The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish as a medium for language learning through an audiovisual approach. The film was selected due to its clear and simple dialogues, diverse characters that allow for vocal variation, and storyline that reflects everyday communication relevant for Arabic language learners. The dubbing process applied several professional techniques, including: (1) lip-sync synchronization to match the Arabic dialogue with the characters’ mouth movements; (2) character voice matching to align voices with character personalities through adjustments in intonation, rhythm, and emotional expression; (3) cultural adaptation to ensure the dialogue sounds natural in Arabic; and (4) AI-based audio separation and mixing to preserve the original background music and sound effects.
Educationally, the film offers practical vocabulary and sentence structures suitable for intermediate Arabic learners, with an ideal duration for an independent dubbing project. Technically, the film’s audio-visual quality supports clear vocal isolation, while its animation style allows for flexible timing adjustments without disrupting visual realism. The final dubbing result demonstrates that animated films can serve as an effective medium for Arabic language acquisition. The dubbed dialogue preserves the original meaning while adapting to the structure and norms of the target language. This project not only produces Arabic-language entertainment content but also provides hands-on experience in audiovisual translation techniques and modern dubbing techonology.
