Abstract

Counterproductive work behavior is a negative action performed by employees that harms the organization, coworkers, supervisors, subordinates, and even customers. The impacts include organizational losses, decreased efficiency, reduced service quality, and a decline in employee productivity. One of the factors that contributes to counterproductive work behavior is the level of work engagement. In other words, employees who are less engaged or not engaged at all with their work tend to exhibit behaviors that are detrimental to the organization. This research was conducted due to the occurrence of counterproductive work behavior among employees at PT X, such as arriving late, taking extended breaks, and relaxing during working hours. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine whether there is an influence of work engagement
on counterproductive work behavior among employees at PT X. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach using simple non-linear regression analysis. The subjects of this study were 114 employees at PT X, selected through accidental sampling. The regression test results showed (β = -0.47; p < 0.05), indicating a negative influence of work engagement on counterproductive work behavior among PT X employees. This means that the lower the work engagement, the higher the tendency for counterproductive work behavior to occur, and
vice versa.
