Abstract
Adolescence is one of the most dynamic and challenging phases of human development. Individuals in this age range experience many changes in physical, emotional, social, and psychological aspects. Psychological disorders are a common phenomenon among adolescents. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that between 10-20% of adolescents worldwide experience mental health problems. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the intensity of social media use plays a role in depression, anxiety, and stress among adolescents. This study is a quantitative research study. The method used in this study is Simple Linear Regression. The analysis results yielded a p-value of 0.000 for H1, indicating that the intensity of social media use plays a role in depression. Analysis of H2 yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating that the intensity of social media use is associated with anxiety. Analysis of H3 yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating that the intensity of social media use is associated with stress. It can be concluded that the intensity of social media use significantly influences depression, anxiety, and stress among adolescents. Implications of the study for adolescents to avoid depression, anxiety, and stress include reducing social media use during free time, reducing social media use in public places, avoiding social media use during classroom learning (both in-person and online), reducing social media use when stressed, and using social media only for positive activities.
