Abstract
This study aims to explain the national interests of the United States in its involvement in the Syrian conflict from 2017 to 2025. Although often framed under the narrative of humanitarian concern and regional stability, the U.S. involvement is fundamentally driven by strategic, political, and global economic considerations. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyzes the dynamics of American engagement through literature review from journals, media reports, books, and official documents. The findings reveal that the United States holds several strategic interests, including containing the influence of Iran and Russia in the Middle East, maintaining its global hegemony, and shaping a post-conflict political order aligned with Western values and interests. Economically, the U.S. has shown interest in controlling energy resources—particularly oil in eastern Syria—and supporting pipeline projects intended to reduce Russia’s energy dominance over Europe. Additionally, post-conflict reconstruction investments are used as instruments to create political and economic dependence. From a security perspective, U.S. involvement reflects a long-term strategy to combat global terrorism—particularly ISIS—and to curb Iran’s military expansion, which is perceived as a threat to regional balance. Therefore, the Syrian conflict serves as a battleground for competing global powers, where the United States asserts its role as an active global actor in shaping the political and security landscape of Syria and the broader Middle East.
