Abstract
Popular culture plays a very significant role in shaping the values, identity, and mindset of society. One form of popular culture that dominates the entertainment world is anime. One interesting part of this anime is a special film entitled "ONE PIECE FAN LETTER", which depicts a unique relationship between the creator of the work of art and his fans. The study uses the film "ONE PIECE FAN LETTER" as a research subject, because in the film there are scenes that contain representative elements of inspiration from the character Nami. This study aims to analyze the representative character Nami as an inspiration in the film "ONE PIECE FAN LETTER", this approach involves verbal language such as dialogue as well as non-verbal language such as behavior and body language. This study is a qualitative study that aims to interpret, explain and understand the object of research through interpretation of observations, listening and understanding of researchers. This study uses Roland Barthes' semiotic model, which consists of three stages of analysis: Denotation, Connotation, and Myth.
The results of this study indicate that Nami's character is not only portrayed as the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, but also as an inspiring symbol of intelligence, resilience, and determination. This also demonstrates that characters in anime can have an inspiring impact on viewers, particularly in shaping their motivation and aspirations. This study also confirms the relevance of Barthes' theory in analyzing how symbols in films construct cultural and ideological meanings.
