Abstract
Background: Game duration refers to the length of time an activity lasts. In the context of online gaming, duration refers to the time a person spends playing the game. Frequency, on the other hand, describes how often an activity occurs or is used.
Sleep patterns refer to the habits and cycles that occur when a person sleeps over a specific period. This encompasses various aspects such as sleep duration, sleep start and end times, and sleep quality. Healthy sleep patterns often involve consistency in daily bedtimes and wake times, as well as going through several sleep stages such as light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep.
Objective: To determine the relationship between game duration and sleep patterns in adolescents.
Research Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design approach, involving adolescents aged 17-19 years. Purposive sampling was used. The instruments used included a self-report sheet to measure game duration and the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) to measure sleep patterns. Data analysis used frequency distributions for univariate data analysis, while for bivariate data analysis, the Spearman correlation test was used to examine the relationship between variables.
Research Results: The results of this study indicate that the majority of 18-year-old adolescents with a high school education who are addicted to online gaming have intermediate sleep patterns. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.001 < α (0.05) and a weak correlation with an R value of -0.409.
Conclusion:
There is a relationship between game playing duration and adolescent sleep patterns, with a weak correlation and a negative correlation. Thus, the longer the game playing duration, the lower the adolescent sleep pattern.
