Abstract
Indonesian society today is classified as a modern society that has consumptive tendencies. The ease of shopping can be a trigger for the emergence of consumptive behavior so it is necessary to instill good self-control in him. This study aims to identify the influence of self-control on consumptive behavior in shopping in students. This research method uses a quantitative method and uses a correlational research design with a sample of 105 students. The instruments used for self-control are using the Self Control Scale (SCS) and consumptive behavior using the Consumptive Behavior Scale. The results showed that self-control had a significant influence on the consumptive behavior of regional students by 54.2% with a significance value of p < 0.001. The regression coefficient with a negative value (B = -0.681) showed a negative influence between the self-control variables on consumptive behavior. This means that the higher the self-control possessed by students, the lower the consumptive behavior they show in shopping activities. On the other hand, the lower the self-control, the higher the tendency of students to engage in consumptive behavior. Thus, it can be concluded that self-control has an important role in suppressing consumptive behavior, especially in the context of shopping which is increasingly part of the lifestyle of today's students
