Abstract
This research aims to design and develop a prototype of a solar public street
lighting system (PJUTS). Indonesia, as an archipelago with 17,000 islands in 2021,
is known as an "Archipelagic State". Data taken from the National Energy Council
(DEN) shows that solar energy potential in Indonesia reaches an average of 4.9
kWhm2 per day, equivalent to 207,898 MW. This potential allows the utilisation of
natural resources to increase the potential of renewable energy in Indonesia.
One of the efforts and solutions that are environmentally friendly and
energy efficient to increase the potential of renewable energy is by utilising solar
power. Public street lighting, which has been sourced from PLN electricity, can be
replaced by utilising solar power. To overcome this problem, this research
proposes the use of a Solar-based Public Street Lighting system (PJUTS) using
Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors. The use of PIR sensors in the system makes it
possible to reduce the power used in PJUTS.
In addition, this research also aims to develop a prototype that is capable
of being used in PJUTS and is expected to reduce energy use so that the power used
is more efficient.
