Abstract
Senior high school students often face various challenges and responsibilities, one of which is from the school environment which can affect the well-being of the individual. Students can experience pressure called academic stress. Therefore, it is important for students to have an attitude of hope in order to reduce the academic stress experienced. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hope on academic stress in high school students. The subjects of this study were high school students in East Java province, with a total of 347 students. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling. The instrument in this study used the Adult Hope Scale (AHS) and The Academic Expectation Stress Inventory (AESI). Data analysis using simple linear regression test with SPPS windows ver 27. The result showed a significance value of <.001, meaning that there is an effect of hope on academic stress in high school students. The R2 value obtained in this study is 0.037, which means that 3.7% of hope contributes to academic stress in high school students. The implication in this study is to reduce academic stress in high school students, so that it can increase hope.
