Abstract

This study aims to understand and analyze the form of resilience of motorcycle taxi drivers in Karangjati Timur Village, Tonjong District, Brebes Regency, in facing challenges due to the rapid development of digital technology, especially competition with online motorcycle taxi services. Changes in the application-based transportation system have had a significant impact on the sustainability of their work, both economically and psychologically. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research subjects numbered 13 people. Data collection techniques were carried out through field observations, in-depth interviews with motorcycle taxi drivers, and supporting documentation with data validity techniques using Source Triangulation and Technical Triangulation. The results of the study show that motorcycle taxi drivers experience various challenges, such as decreasing number of customers, unstable income, and emotional stress due to uncertainty about the future. However, they still show strong resilience through three forms: surviving with existing conditions, adapting by looking for additional work such as farm laborers or transportation services, and bouncing back by developing new life strategies and maintaining an optimistic attitude towards change. Factors that influence this resilience include psychological aspects (work spirit, sense of responsibility, and never giving up), social (family support, solidarity among fellow motorcycle taxi drivers), and economic (simple financial management and utilization of local opportunities). This study recommends empowerment programs such as digital skills training, increasing access to capital, and the need for further studies on the social resilience of informal worker groups in the digitalization era as a basis for more inclusive and equitable social policies and interventions.
