Abstract

Community forestry is a community-based sustainable forest management that provides important ecological and socio-economic contributions. This study compares conventional forest inventory with a satellite imagery approach using the NDVI method in the Klampok Village Community Forest, Malang Regency. The analysis was conducted on 98 plots by measuring tree diameter, height, volume, and basal area. NDVI was classified into four classes of canopy density based on Sentinel-2A imagery. The results showed that most areas had high density of 73 plots confirmed through ground checks with the dominance of White Teak, Waru, and Jabon species. NDVI regression on volume and basal area showed a positive relationship although not statistically significant (p > 0.05) with an Adjusted R² of 23.79%. The NDVI classification accuracy test achieved an Overall Accuracy of 80.61% and Kappa 55.47%. Changes in vegetation density with the Cellular Automata-Markov model showed a decrease in high density until 2024 and potential recovery in 2029. This study shows that the NDVI approach is effective as an alternative to support community forest inventory.
