Abstract
Stone dust is a waste of stone crushing industry that has the potential to be utilized as a filling material for conwood, while sengon wood powder is a waste from the wood processing industry. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of stone ash and sengon wood powder with variations in the concentration of PVAc adhesive on the physical and mechanical properties of conwood. The research used a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors of stone ash: sengon sawdust composition (25:75, 50:50, and 75:25) and PVAc adhesive concentration (30% and 40%), resulting in six treatments with three replications. Tests were conducted on dimensions, specific gravity, moisture content, absorbency, thickness development, Modulus of Elasticity (MoE), and Modulus of Rupture (MoR). The results showed that increasing the proportion of rock ash and adhesive concentration significantly increased the specific gravity, MoE, and MoR, and decreased the water absorption. The highest MoE value was achieved in the treatment of 75% rock ash : 25% sengon powder with 40% adhesive, which was 2,256.94 kgf/cm², while the highest MOR value was 86.67 kgf/cm². The MoE value results are not yet in accordance with the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard and the MoR value there is one sample that meets the standard, but the results show the potential for the utilization of stone ash and sengon powder in conwood to be an environmentally friendly alternative.
