Abstract
Emotion dysregulation is an individual's inability to adaptively manage emotions that can contribute to self-injurious behavior without suicidal intent (NSSI). This study aims to determine the role of emotion dysregulation on the tendency of NSSI behavior in Gen Z. This study used a correlational quantitative approach on 161 participants aged 14-29 years who were selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used in this study were the Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS) and Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale Short Form (DERS-SF). Data were analyzed using simple linear regression and showed that emotion dysregulation significantly influenced NSSI (β = 0.440, p < 0.001) and contributed 19.4% to NSSI. This finding indicates that individuals with higher emotion dysregulation are more likely to engage in NSSI. This study provides important implications in psychological interventions, especially in the prevention and treatment of NSSI through strategies to improve emotion regulation.
