Abstract
Career planning is an essential aspect of adolescent development, especially during late adolescence. In this process, parental support and alignment with adolescents can influence an individual’s readiness to make career decisions. This study aims to identify the extent of career congruence between first-year psychology students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, who are in late adolescence, and their parents. This research employed a descriptive quantitative method with 234 participants aged 18–22 years who met the criteria of late adolescence. The instrument used was the Adolescent-Parent Career Congruence Scale consisting of 12 items. Results revealed that 55% of participants had a high level of career
congruence, while 45% fell into the low category. The average score was 0.55 with a standard deviation of 0.499, indicating a relatively balanced distribution. A binomial test showed no significant difference between the proportions of high and low congruence (p = 0.170).
Additionally, no significant differences were found based on gender, age, region of origin, or parental occupation. These findings suggest that career congruence among students varies and is not determined by specific demographic factors.
