Abstract

The decline in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) production in Indonesia may be caused by low seed quality, particularly due to dormancy that inhibits germination. This study aimed to determine the effect of gibberellin (GA₃) concentration and soaking duration (hydropriming) on the viability and vigor of eggplant seeds. The research was conducted at the Seed Quality Testing Laboratory, BBPPTP Surabaya, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: GA₃ concentration (0, 40, 60, and 80 ppm) and soaking duration (25, 30, and 35 hours), each with three replications. Observed parameters included germination rate, germination time, germination speed, fresh and dry weight of seedlings, root length, and hypocotyl length. The results showed that GA₃ concentration and soaking duration had no significant effect on germination rate; however, their combinations had a positive descriptive effect on several vigor parameters. The combination of 40 ppm GA₃ and 30 hours of soaking (K1L2) resulted in the highest germination speed, while the 80 ppm and 35-hour combination (K3L3) produced the best results in root and hypocotyl length. Soaking seeds in GA₃ solution for 30–35 hours showed a trend of increasing early seedling growth parameters.
