Abstract

Background : Anemia is a global health problem that is widely experienced in developing countries. One of the main symptoms of anemia is continuous fatigue that interferes with quality of life, decreased energy, and impaired physical activity. Non-pharmacological interventions such as Progressive Muscle Relaxation are one alternative to reduce fatigue and tiredness. This therapy works by reducing muscle tension, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, and creating a sense of comfort and relaxation.
Methods : The research method used in the preparation of this final scientific paper uses a case study report. The process of assessing and collecting data is carried out using various techniques, including: interviews with patients, observation and documentation. The instrument used is the fatigue Saverity Scale instrument as a reference for measuring fatigue and the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standard (SLKI). The non-pharmacological intervention given is Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy which is given twice a day with a duration of approximately 15 minutes and evaluated for 3 days.
Results : After undergoing progressive muscle relaxation therapy intervention for 3 consecutive days in anemic patients with complaints of fatigue and prolonged tiredness and then given Progressive Muscle Relaxation intervention, the patient reported feeling more relaxed, the body felt lighter, fatigue was reduced, more energetic, and the body felt less tired. The fatigue Saverity Scale score decreased from severe to moderate fatigue category, and the SLKI indicator showed an increase in verbal fatigue, and energy. The limitations of this study are that this study is a single case study conducted on anemia patients with comorbidities, namely pleural effusion, cardiomegaly, and hemorrhoids. Although the patient's condition is complex, progressive muscle relaxation intervention still shows effectiveness in reducing fatigue levels.
Discussion : Progressive Muscle Relaxation therapy can be an additional strategy in treatment aimed at reducing prolonged fatigue levels in Anemia patients. However, pharmacological treatment is also needed in collaboration with other health workers.
