ABSTRACT

In literary works, language style is an important element because it not only conveys meaning directly, but also enriches the nuances, creates a beauty effect, and forms the author's identity. Sapardi Djoko Damono's Rainy June is a novel that has its own characteristics in the use of language style. The language style used in the novel is very beautiful, poetic and has a deep meaning. This is what distinguishes the novel from other novels. This study aims to describe the pattern of comparative language style in the novel Hujan Bulan Juni by Sapardi Djoko Damono, describe the function of comparative language style in the novel Hujan Bulan Juni by Sapardi Djoko Damono, and its alternative utilization as a source of Indonesian language teaching materials in high school.
This research uses a stylistic approach of qualitative research type. Based on the results of the research, it has been found that the pattern of language style used in the novel is comparative language style which includes simile, metaphor, personification, allusion, and euphemism. Of the five language styles, the dominant language style used is the personification language style. Meanwhile, there are three functions of language style in the novel, namely symbolic function, aesthetic function, and expressive function. These three functions are found in the novel but the symbolic and aesthetic functions appear a lot.
The comparative language style in the novel Hujan Bulan Juni can be utilized in Indonesian language learning, namely in phase E and F learning outcomes, where students are directed to develop the ability to analyze and evaluate literary texts, such as short stories, novels, and poetry, by paying attention to intrinsic and extrinsic elements and by using language styles. This research shows the importance of language style in novels because a literary work will become more interesting by using beautiful language and language style can be utilized as a source of teaching materials in Indonesian language learning.
