Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Big Five Personality dimensions on burnout in field workers at construction company in Malang City. The background of this study is the high work pressure in the construction sector which can trigger burnout, especially for field workers who face heavy physical and mental demands. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The subjects of the study were 129 employees selected using the total sampling technique. The instruments used were the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression. The results showed that two personality dimensions, namely neuroticism and openness to experience, have a significant effect on burnout. The neuroticism dimension has a positive effect, meaning that the higher the neuroticism, the higher the level of burnout. Conversely, openness to experience has a negative effect, indicating that individuals who are open to new experiences tend to have lower levels of burnout. The other three dimensions of extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness did not show a significant effect on burnout. These findings provide important implications in human resource management, especially in preventing personality-based burnout in workers.
