Abstract
COVID-19 rapidly spread into a global pandemic from 2020 to 2022 and caused high mortality worldwide including Indonesia which experienced several waves of peak cases. The main risk factor that increases mortality is the presence of comorbidities, with one of them being diabetes mellitus that has shown to increase the risk of mortality in COVID-19 patients. Data from various studies and hospitals including RSU UMM as a referral hospital show that patients with diabetes mellitus have a higher mortality rate than the general population infected with COVID-19. The objective of this research is to determine the incidence pattern of diabetes mellitus as a comorbid of COVID-19 patients who died during treatment at Muhammadiyah Malang University General Hospital in 2020-2022. This study used a descriptive observational method with a cross sectional approach using secondary data in the form of medical records of UMM General Hospital in 2020-2022. The result of the research is that it was found that the number of COVID-19 patients who died with diabetes and other comorbidities was more (82 people) than those who only had a history of diabetes (31 people). In the group of patients with diabetes alone, male patients were more dominant (54.84%), while in the group with diabetes and other comorbidities, the distribution was balanced between men and women (50.00%). The majority of patients in both groups had non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus without complications, which accounted for 83.87% of the group with diabetes alone and 90.24% of the group with diabetes and other comorbidities. The conclusion of this research is from 113 COVID-19 patients with diabetes mellitus comorbid who died during treatment at UMM General Hospital in 2020-2022, a distribution pattern of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus without complications (83.87%) and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with coma (16.13%) was found.
