Abstract

Background: The high usage of digital devices among medical students increases the risk of visual fatigue or asthenopia. One of the contributing factors to the severity of asthenopia is sleep duration, considering that adequate sleep plays an important role in the recovery of visual system functions and the central nervous system.
Objective:This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep duration and the severity of asthenopia among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Methods: This research employed an analytical quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 41 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires on sleep duration and asthenopia symptoms, and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test.
Results: The correlation test showed a significant negative relationship between sleep duration and the severity of asthenopia (p < 0.05), indicating that shorter sleep duration is associated with more severe asthenopia symptoms.
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sleep duration and the severity of asthenopia among medical students.
